McGuffey Rotating Mural Projects

In partnership with The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative and The Charlottesville Mural Project, McGuffey Art Center recently started a program to revamp several outdoor spaces with open calls for community murals featuring the work of artists from the Central Virginia area. These mural projects are rotating in nature, meaning that the mural will be redesigned and repainted each year, with the intention of encouraging a variety of unique artistic perspectives and showcasing the work of multiple artists each year.

For our third year, in the fall of 2022, during our annual Día de los Muertos celebration, Karina Monroy created a mural on the North Wall.

In spring of 2021, we kicked off our second rotating mural project with a call for submissions for the Red Shed Mural Project, which focused on revamping the façade of the Red Shed behind McGuffey Art Center. In August 2021, Laura Lee Gulledge and a group of five 13-year old students from her Street Art Camp completed a collaborative mural on the Red Shed, A Peek into the Past…

In fall of 2020, we kicked off our first rotating mural project with a release for a call for submissions for the North Wall Mural Project, geared toward giving a much needed rejuvenation to the North entrance retaining wall outside McGuffey Art Center. In December 2020 and early January 2021, Meesha Goldberg completed our first mural on the North Wall, Kinfolk.
