Art and Community since 1975

McGuffey Art Center, located one block from the Downtown Mall, is one of the oldest artist-run cooperative art centers in the country.   We are a community of artists dedicated to practicing our art and to passing on the creative spirit.  This is our mission statement.  It reflects our identity as over 150 small businesses operating under one nurturing and forward-thinking umbrella.  Forty-six artists work in our historic building as renting members, six rotate every year as incubator members, and 108 have studios elsewhere, creating circles of financial and artistic connections throughout Charlottesville, Central Virginia, and beyond.  Artists show in the galleries at the art center, host workshops, teach classes, give free tours to groups of students, participate in summer art camps, put time and care into committee work - together we make McGuffey run.

Come to our First Friday openings, free and open to the public on the first Friday of every month (except for August) as we celebrate and meet with the community.
