Manuel Sanchez: Mi Selva Natal
SARAH B. SMITH GALLERY
Manuel Sanchez was born and raised in the rain forest of the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. At a very young age he was "adopted" by Osa Conservation, a non-profit conservation research and educational organization that just happened to be next door to his father's farm. He started out as a guide for the scientists working at the research station and quickly began to assist them with data and specimen gathering. In a very short time he was running the volunteer sea turtle protection program. At some point, someone who was aware of his uncanny ability to "see" things in the forest that no one else could see, gave him a camera.
Manuel has never put the camera down and he has developed into an amazing photographer of wild life. He has a natural sense of composition and his ability to find subjects and photograph them is magical. This is the first public exhibition of his work.

Collected Works on Paper: Through a layered collection of acrylic, collage paper and mix medium, I create movement between what is concealed and what is seen. I watch it evolve as the relationship develops, constantly making choices. I love to explore a repertoire of methods, forms, unique textures, bold colors and shapes.
There is a Fauve quality to my work emphasizing a painterly approach with strong color choices, but they come alive when I see how they all interact and react with each other.
Medium: Mixed Media Acrylic on Paper
