Michael Fitts is going big in a new series of paintings for his October 2018 show at Haley Fine Art in Sperryville, Virginia. Known for his intimately detailed oil paintings of common objects on scrap copper and tin, Fitts has put a new twist on his typical typical approach of rendering objects actual size, instead opting to supersize his chosen subject matter.
Among these new works are a silver spoon painted the size of a shovel, a five-foot-tall version of a No. 2 pencil, and a Hershey’s Kiss that’s as big as your head. About this series Fitts says, “I don’t necessarily want the subjects in these paintings to feel large; I’m more interested in flipping the scales and challenging what we see and perceive and the relevance we give to the everyday objects around us.”
This is the third major exhibition of paintings by Michael Fitts that Haley Fine Art has shown over the past six years. The exhibit will run through October.
Haley Fine Art is located at 42 Main Street, Sperryville, Virginia
