SARAH B. SMITH GALLERY
Art collides with nature in this four-artist exhibit of work comprised of materials transformed from the natural world. Mushroom roots (mycelium), beeswax, natural pigments and tree resin are transformed through heat into four distinct visions that express poignant perspectives on the hidden parts of the world around us.
Giselle Gautreau, Encaustic
L. Michelle Geiger, Mixed media
Cri Kars-Marshall, Mycelium
Jeannine Regan, Encaustic
Instinct: Nancy Galloway, Joshua Galloway
This two-person show of paintings focusing on the natural world are evidence of the two artist’s shared interest in light, juxtaposed colors, and the drama of the combinations.
Jane Skafte: Where We Live
This drawing is part of my series on climate change, depicting what is left of an ancient forest that succumbed to earth changes, when the forest became flooded by saltwater. Our current coastal erosion and flooding due to glacier melt will cause more such episodes, but will create ghost cities.
Little Creatures of the Mystery Woods and Other Works in Progress
This show will include works from the macro Panoramic photographs of the small creatures that live in the Mystery Woods, as well as works in progress from the Retaining Wall Blues series and wet plate portraits from the ongoing People of Charlottesville series.
