PORCELAIN

I use primarily handbuilding techniques incorporating textured surfaces and exploring the soft fluid folding of the thin wet clay. Varying degrees of translucency are exhibited as light passes through the vitrified porcelain after firing to 2400 degrees using lead- free glazes. Pieces are Oven, Microwave, and Dishwasher safe.

STONEWARE

Forms with textured surfaces and an organic feeling are of special interest to me. These are achieved mainly using handbuilding techniques, sometimes in combination with wheel- throwing. Pieces are fired to 2400 degrees using lead- free glazes and are Oven, Microwave, and Dishwasher safe.

MARBLING

The earliest form was Suminagashi in the 12th century Japan. A different form Turkish Marbling or Ebru began in Turkey in the 15th century. Marbled papers were used in documents, manuscripts, and for bookbinding. Details of the process were kept secret for centuries. In recent years information has become available and a nearly lost art is enjoying a revival. Colors are floated and teased into patterns using combs and various tools. The pattern is then transferred to the paper or fabric, creating a unique print.

SILK PAINTING

Silk, a beautiful gift from nature, can be traced back to Asia and ancient China possibly as early as 3000 BC. The art of painting on silk is nearly as old as the discovery of silk as a fabric. Design possibilities are unlimited. No two paintings are ever alike. There are many varied techniques used in silk painting. It is an exciting creative art medium which I am exploring.
